Activated Charcoal February 05 2015

Activated Charcoal is commonly used for the treatment of certain poisoning and drug overdoses.  It also helps to essentially "capture" or bind-up unwanted materials, toxins, and gas in the stomach and intestines and pass them through the body without allowing them to be absorbed into the body of the pet.  The toxins are then eliminated through the animal vomiting or having a bowel movement.  Often the feces will be black. Comes in a capsule as well as a powder form.  Always check with your veterinarian or the animal poison control center hotline if your pet may have accidentally received or been given an overdose of the medication.

The Pros of Probiotics & Digestive Enzymes December 04 2014

Just as probiotics and digestive enzymes can be beneficial for people, they can be just as helpful for cats & dogs.

Pets that may benefit from adding either probiotics and/or digestive enzymes to their diet can have symptoms like:

 * Digestive upset

 * Mild stomach infections

 * Gas

 * Vomiting

 * Diarrhea

 * Loss of Appetite

Probiotics are a group of healthy bacteria that should be at 4-6 billion live cultures to be effective and should come from a non-dairy source like plants; but can also come in vegan varieties as well.  They can be added to your pet's diet as a supplement of beneficial bacteria in powder, capsule or liquid form.  Probiotics help to balance out the stomach flora which allows the stomach to function normally.  By incorporating probiotics into your pet's diet, they can also help to keep the walls of the stomach from being irritated after breaking down kibble.

Digestive Enzymes aid in digestive support.  They assist in breaking down and digesting foods to make it easier on the animal to assimilate carbohydrates, starches, and grains which are often found in kibble.  Also, by adding the digestive enzymes, there is less poop as more is broken down and not passed as stool.
